Roots of Hip Hop - Fri. Aug. 4 - 6PM

of 4
The Rainbow Dance Theatre ensemble take audience members on a cultural odyssey which traces today’s popular dance style Hip Hop back to its roots in African dance and drumming. Through dynamic performances, intriguing vignettes, and audience involvement the performers trace the history of African-Americans from their home in Africa through their days of slavery up to the present, thus illustrating in a tangible way how traditions retain their connection to the past while adapting to new cultural influences.

Founded in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1991, Rainbow Dance Theatre (RDT) has been based in Monmouth, Oregon since 2000. The Company has toured throughout the world, performing in Europe, Asia, the United States, Canada, and Mexico to widespread critical and popular acclaim. At the invitation of the United States Pavilion, the Company presented four standing-room-only performances at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, China.

Twisty & Friends

Twisty wrote this bio...

About 20 years ago I was told by my Ex Wife that I was boring so to prove her wrong I went shopping and found a balloon twisting kit with a very cheesy air pump. I said to myself "Why not?" and took it home and blew up my first balloon. Then Viola! I made my first poodle and then a butterfly and found that I had a natural talent. After I taught myself how to twist a couple of balloons I decided to enroll in California Clown College held in Las Vegas, Nevada at Circus Circus. I really didn't like dressing like a clown (not to mention I’m afraid of clowns) and ready to quit, never wanting to do balloons again. Then I ran into ED Alonzo (saved by the Bell). When I saw his magic show at Magic Mountain and I was inspired, and I realized I didn’t have to dress like a clown. Once I found my image I was ready to entertain and have been doing so ever since. You will find that my show is for the whole family, filled with laughs and thrills.

I entertain for weddings, birthday parties, fairs, and markets all around the USA. According to Guinness world records I am the world’s fastest balloon twister. You can find me at The Original Rhode House Grille most nights during the winter months. I also do huge balloon sculptures and wearable dresses.
